Software Risk

1. What is Risk?

2. Identify at least 5 software risk. Discuss each.

3. Identify risk management strategies.

4. You are asked by your manager to deliver software to a schedule which you know can only be met by asking your project team to work unpaid overtime. All team members have young children. Discuss whether you should accept this demand from your manager or whether you should persuade your team to give their time to the organisation rather that thier families. What factors might be significant in your decision?

5. As an IT student that has been trained for Java Programming, you are offered a home based job as a project manager for a certain software project, but you feel that you can make more effective contribution in a technical specifically doing progamming module using Java for the project rather than a managerial role. Discuss whether you should accept the job.

6. Send me your email add to Yn.logoff@gmail.com, including your name. This is to enable me to send lecture notes and presentations in your mailbox. ASAP.

At the ICSD Software Development Services you work as a Software Project Manager. You have been asked to conduct user training sessions during the implementation phase for an "SMS Based Student Information Inquiry of DOSCST System". You must develop a specific schedule for the tasks outlined below:
  1. You need to send communication to all College Department's Chair announcing the training session where participations of their students are enjoined (1 day).
  2. After the communication letters sent, two tasks can be begin at the same time
    • you can develop the training material ( 7 days)
    • confirm arrangements for the training facilities (ex. AVR) ( 3 days).
  3. As soon as the training material is complete, you can work on two tasks at once:
    • Arrange to have copies of handout material printed (3 days) and,
    • develop a set of electronic presentation (5 days)
  4. When the electronic presentation is ready, you conduct a practice training session with the faculty that will assist you (2 days).
  5. Finally, when the practice session is over, the handout material is ready and the training facility is confirmed by the DAS, you conduct a training sessions (2 days).
Using PERT technique, develop a chart that shows ES, EF, LS, and LF for the project.
